Smarter. Safer. Sustainable.
Our mission
To rapidly transform emergency care systems through clinical leadership, system redesign, and evidence-based sustainability practices delivering better outcomes for patients, clinicians, and our environment.
Our vision
A future where emergency care is climate-smart, people-centered, and designed to protect life at every level from individual patients to the planet we all share.
We believe emergency departments can and must lead the way in health system decarbonisation, resource stewardship, and low-harm, high-value care.

Who We Are & Our Networks
We are a growing coalition of emergency doctors, nurses, researchers, sustainability leads, hospital executives, and systems thinkers.
Our work is shaped by frontline experience, global evidence, and decades of health systems knowledge. We collaborate with national bodies and global networks to accelerate and scale what works.

Why We Exist.
Emergency departments are under growing pressure: rising demand, tightening budgets, and the escalating health impacts of climate change. Too often, care is delivered in ways that harm both patients and the planet.
We believe it doesn’t have to be this way.
Emergency clinicians are uniquely positioned to drive practical, scalable change by cutting waste, reducing unnecessary investigations, improving flow, and creating sustainable models that protect what matters most: time, trust, and life.
Sustainable Emergency Care was created to accelerate this transformation by providing the tools, networks, and systems support clinicians need to lead from the front.

Who We Collaborate With.
Change doesn’t happen in silos. That’s why our work is collaborative by design.
We work alongside:
National and international health colleges
Government bodies
Sustainability leads and health economists
Emergency departments across Australia, the UK, and beyond
Global climate-health alliances
Together, we’re turning ideas into implementation and building a blueprint for sustainable care systems that others can follow.
Governance & Funding
Sustainable Emergency Care is clinician-led, impact-driven, and structured for transparency and trust.
We are guided by a Steering Group of frontline clinicians, health system leaders, and sustainability experts.
We operate as a nonprofit initiative, designed for public benefit, not private gain.
Our current work is self-funded and bootstrapped, with in-kind support from aligned partners and clinicians.
As we grow, we will seek mission-aligned funding and partnerships to scale our programs, toolkits, and research network.
A full breakdown of our governance and funding framework will be made available here soon.
